Cpl. Frederick Douck

Frederick Douck was born October 10, 1832, In Mecklenburg, Germany, and died in Nunica, Michigan, March 16, 1910, aged 77 Years, 5 months. Mr. Douck came to America when he was 19 years of age and stopped in New York State for a few years. When he was 27 Years old he came to Michigan and settled at Grass Lake. In 1862 he enlisted in Co. F, 17th Michigan Volunteers, and served to the end of the war when he was honorably discharged. He then settled in Nunica. Mr. Duock was married twice and besides a widow leaves two sons and two daughters, a number of grandchildren and many friends. He was a member of Bartholomew Post No. 130, G. A. R. and a U. S. Army pensioner; also belonged to the K. O. T. M. M. He was buried in Nunica Cemetery by the G. A. R. A large concourse of people gathered at the home to witness the last rites in honor of a good man and honored citizen.

Services were in charge of Rev. Haist who preached a brief sermon from I John 4:9.

Frederick Douck enlisted in Co. F, 17th Michigan Infantry on August 26, 1862, at Jackson, Michigan, age 29. He was promoted to corporal on May 1, 1865, and was mustered out June 3, 1865, at Delaney House, Washington, D. C.
