Coopersville Observer, March 10, 1899 Charles Hinsley Resolutions: To Bartholomew Post, No. 136, Department of Michigan, G. A. R. Comrades- Your committee appointed to draft resolutions of respect to the memory of our deceased, Comrade Charles Hinsley, respectfully report as follows: It has pleased our great Commander in His providence to take from among us Comrade Charles Hinsley. Charles Hinsley has long been a comrade of this post in the great struggle for National existence. Comrade Hinsley was a soldier ever at his post of duty in Company F, 14th Regiment, Michigan Volunteers Infantry and artificer Company G, 101 Regiment United States Volunteer Engineer. Comrad Hinsley was always ready to do his duty when called upon. He suffered many years from diseases contracted while in the service. Bartholomew Post mourns the death of this brave soldier and good comrade. Death has come to him before most of us, and we, his comrades, pass these resolutions of respect, that he was a brave and noble soldier when his country needed his services in the field, he has been an attentive and worthy comrade of the G. A. R. for many years and we, as brothers, in the behalf of Bartholomew Post, No. 136, desire to bury with said Comrade Charles Hinsley, the stars and stripes which he highly honored. And these articles of respect to his memory should be spread on the records of this post, and copies thereof given to the bereaved family and published in the papers of the county; and the Post charter to be draped in mourning for thirty days.
