Another veteran of the Civil War has passed away, General Elisha Mix, of Allegan, who died on Monday, age 80 years. He came to Michigan in 1843, erected a sawmill at Manlius on the Kalamazoo River, and engaged in lumbering. In 1852 he was elected county surveyor and surveyed most of all of the western part of Allegan County. After the war, he went to Wyandotte, where he founded the agricultural works, remaining there two years. He went to Pennsylvania and Connecticut engaging in different kinds of business for about ten years. He returned to Allegan and has resided there ever since.

At the outbreak of the Rebellion, he raised a company, and was commissioned captain in the Eighth Cavalry. In 1863, he was promoted to be colonel of his regiment. He was in 52 engagements and was wounded twice. Prior to being mustered out, he was commissioned brevent brigadier general.

(Entered service in 8^th MI Cavalry, Co. F, age 44. He was mustered out on Sept. 22, 1865. He is buried at Allegan.)
