Civil War Veteran Dies

George Nash, 82, was Former Ship Carpenter—Lived Here 39 years

George Nash, aged 82, died this morning at his home, 248 West Ninth Street, after an illness of a week. He is survived by his wife and four children, George and Frank of this city, Mrs. Fred Nichols of Idaho, and Will Nash of Racine, Wisconsin. The funeral will be held at 1:30 Friday afternoon at the home, and at 2 o’clock at the M. E. Church, the Rev. Esveld officiating.

The deceased is an old Civil War veteran, having been a member of the 9th Michigan Infantry. By trade he was a ship carpenter and corker.

The couple lived in Holland for the past 39 years, and a number of years ago he retired from business because of his age.

(Death certificate: George Nash was born March 21, 1833, and died January 5, 1916. He is buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.)
