Charles Smead was born in 1833, in Pierrepont, St. Lawrence County, New York, the son of Charles Smead, Sr., who died in 1885, age 86, and Patty Rose Smead, who died in Ottawa County, Michigan on May 27, 1897, age 93 years, 5 months and 8 days, the daughter of Elijah and Betsy Rose.

In the biography of Ezra Smead in the book, Portrait and Biographical Record of Ottawa and Muskegon Counties, 1893, it states that Charles Smead, Sr. and Patty Smead were the parents of ten children.

Charles was buried in Allendale Township Cemetery in 1873, age 40, in lot #74, grave #2. Also buried in lot #74 is Betty Smead, buried May 29, 1897.

Ezra Smead and his wife, Fannie, are buried in lot #74, graves #5 and #6.
