Holland City News, Saturday, April 17, 1897 Samuel Smith Samuel Smith died Monday evening at the age of 73 years after a lingering illness from stomach trouble. He was a member of A. C. Van Raalte Post, G. A. R., and his record as a soldier is of the very best order, having served in Co. A, 116th New York, Infantry. He leaves a wife and two children. The funeral occurred on Thursday afternoon from the M. E. Church and was under the auspices of the local post. The comrades acting as pall bearers were John Van Anrooy, D. Clark, P. H. Wilms, John Zwemer, John Van Lente and William Wyatt. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. H. G. Birchby, in the M. E. Church. (Buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.) |
