Albert Stegeman

The death of Albert Stegeman is announced at his present home near National City, Cal.

Stegeman was one of the leading men of Grand Haven in the pioneer days, and one of the early merchant of the place. In many respects he was a remarkable man and possessed of unusual executive ability. He was a native of the Netherlands and came to Holland with his parents with the first colonists of 1847. In 1853 Mr. Stegeman came to Grand Haven, and together with the late Dwight Cutler, the late Mr. Waris and others, was in business for a period of over twelve years. The young merchant was a success. He went to Allegan and organized the grange stores, which for a long time was the greatest institution of its kind in the country, being operated on the cooperative plan. A 60,000 stock was carried. Mr. Stegeman went to California a few years ago where he was extensively engaged in raising oranges and lemons. In his death passes away one of the remarkable men of this section.
