Professor Augustus W. Taylor

Died at his residence in Crockery Township, Professor Taylor, June 5, 1893.

This fact is heard with regret and sorrow by hosts of friends in Ottawa County and elsewhere. Mr. Taylor had been confined to his house with a tumor since about the first of December last.

He was born in Litchfield County, Connecticut, 16 July 1819. He came to Michigan with his wife in September, 1853 and at once began teaching. Thereafter for 38 years he was prominently connected with the public school interests in Ottawa County and lent a mighty and masterful influence in increasing the efficacy of schools and teachers.

Mr. Taylor has also done a vast amount of newspaper work in addition to his other duties. He retired into private life in 1891. He was a man respected and loved by all. The death of Mr. Taylor will be mourned by a multitude of friends.

The funeral was held at the residence Wednesday and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Ottawa Center. An elaborate display of cut flowers were contributed by Coopersville friends. A beautiful box of white tea roses was sent from Grand Rapids by A. H. and R. J. Cleland. A great many from Coopersville attended the funeral Wednesday. School closed in the lower rooms to give the teachers and scholars a chance to attend.
