Holland City News, March 13, 1924 Veteran Wounded At Gettysburg Dies Saturday Peter Vork, Civil War veteran, died early Saturday morning at the age of 89. Mr. Vork was born in the Netherlands and came to America when he was 12 years old. He fought many battles in the Civil War and was wounded in the battle of Gettysburg. Mr. Vork’s home was at 298 Lincoln Avenue. He was married 56 years ago. His wife, who survives him, is seriously ill and is not expected to live. He is also survived by two children, Mrs. Fred Hieftje and Joe Vork, and three grandchildren, Mrs. Roy Ashley, Mrs. Marshall Irving and Peter Hieftje, (Peter Vork served in the 25th Michigan Infantry, Co. I. He is buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.) |
