ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM DEEDS, ETC. The quarter section of the site of the first school was patented to Abel W. Page of Bethany, New York in 1836. He seems to have been a land speculator as he owned other quarter sections in Georgetown Township. He sold the land to L. & L. Jenison in 1855. 1855 SCHOOL - This school was erected on land given by Luman and Lucius Jenison for a school. They owned the whole quarter section - NW14/ NW1/4, Section 33, Georgetown Township and gave one-half acres on the northwest corner for a school. In 1862 the land was sold to Homer E. Hudson except for that ½ acre school lot. At a meeting on October 13, 1879, it was voted to build a new school. This was constructed in the spring and summer of 1880. The Spring and Summer school sessions (5 months) were held in Thomas Curry’s hall for which he was paid $10 per month and all damages were to be covered.. Thomas Curry’s land was later owned by Martin Boldt. This is where the parking lot and the former Yonker and Boldt Building is now located (Now owned by Nederveld Associates, Inc.). On April 17, 1879, the school lot was sold to Homer E. and Horace A. Hudson (Horace was the son of Homer). Later, a hotel was located on the site of the first school. That spot is now approximately where the median is for Chicago Drive. 3/10/1879 - Land was purchased from Edward Franklin Bosworth on School Street to erect a new school. This is the second school erected and the one that had an addition made to it in 1892. It is not certain when this building was taken down. (Freda Alward - Born January, 1903 - remembers attending here for a few years.) Third School - The Square Red Brick School was erected about 1909 (It was called the "1910 School"). This was the new grade school. The first high school graduating class was in 1912. There is a picture from 1910 but these are sophomores. Fourth School - The first class to use the new yellow/orange brick edifice was the Kindergarten class of 1929. At this point the Red Brick School became the High School. Liber 37 Pg 603 - GRANTOR- Edward Franklin Bosworth March 10, 1879 for $105 Commencing at a point 1072’ west and 330’ south from the corner stake of the NE corner of Section 32, west parallel with the section line 264’, south 165’, east 264’, north 165’ to beginning (one acre more or less), reserving one rod on the north side for an alleyway. Liber 34 Pg 158 - GRANTOR - Georgetown School Dist. #7 GRANTEE - Homer E. Hudson and Horace A. Hudson (Horace, son of Homer) April 17, 1879 Part of Section 33 NW1/4 NW1/4 NW1/4 - at point of NW corner, east 8 rods, south 10 rods, west 8 rods, north 10 rods to beginning (one-half acre)
