CAPTION: Lashed by gale force winds, an arctic blast of frigid temperatures and blowing snow took an icy slice out of April as a late winter storm chilled most of Michigan, including Onaway. The flagpole at the hospital was bent over after the strong winds, clocking at 60 mph, blew through. According to unofficial reports, gust often hit more than 80 mph. the mobile home at the Onaway airport was flipped on its top and severely damaged. It has been used as an airport office. In other Onaway news, Saturday night fights were held in Onaway. One of the winners was Neil Morgan, who put away his Grayling opponent in the second round in the 168-pound class. Onaway's boxing season was a good one and the five-out-of-eight wins is typical for its performance, said Al Grzesikowski. The even was sponsored by the St. Paul Men's Club and held at Onaway High School. The ring was on loan from Hillman. There was hope that profits from ticket sales would provide enough to purchase a new ring.
