From Presque Isle County Advance and Onaway Outlook December 13, 2018 |
CAPTION: Delbert and Danny Heythaler had mixed emotions about meeting Santa Claus, December 1978.
In other Onaway news, area residents and those just visiting in the city of Onaway, were reminded that
a city ordinance passed in 1974 prohibited parking on any city street between the hours of 2 and 7 a.m.
from Dec. 1 to April 1. A $5 fine was to be issued for violation of the regulation that was enacted to
facilitate snow removal during the winter months. Only physicians on emergency calls or emergency vehicles
were exempted…Onaway city employees were getting a Christmas bonus. For full-time employees it was 2 percent
of their salaries. The year before it was $50…In other Onaway news, there was some rumor squashing needed as
there was talk in the community of the medical practitioner Donald E. Finch leaving the area. It was true that
the Finch house on Washington Avenue was for sale. The good doctor was interested in moving out into the country
while continuing to serve the people of Onaway.
