From Presque Isle County Advance and Onaway Outlook November 14, 2019 |
CAPTION: Dr. Donald Finch and his family had been in Onaway for 30 years.
They arrived during a snowstorm and saw two deer hunters traveling up and
down the city's streets. Coming from the almost balmy climate of Washington,
D.C. they knew immediately that a whole new life lay ahead of them. Prior to
their arrival, the community had been without the service of a local doctor
and were required to travel to neighboring cities for medical care. A search
committee composed of Onaway citizens were put in touch with Finch through his
college, Loma Linda University in California. He delivered more than 1,600
babies over the years. Finch and his family also were instrumental in construction
of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
