Caption: Down the street where the Dairy Queen is today stands the Colonial Hotel.
This week's postcard was taken from the intersection of M211 and State Street. On the left is the old
Standard Oil Company. I wonder if the two gents in front of the station are discussing the price of gas.
We can see the Red Crown Gasoline sign on the sidewalk in front of the station.
The two poles under the "E" and the "T" in the Metropole name are still standing on the east side of
Vance's Service. One pole was for air and the other was for water. They both worked in 1961 when I went
to work for Gray Harman.
The Metropole Hotel still had its overhang. Beyond the Metropole you can see the ads on the side of
Gumm's Store, which today is Parrott's Outpost.
