CAPTION: Onaway Mayor Robert Nelson red a proclamation at the city commission meeting, March 6, 1978 designating the week of March 12 to 18 Girl Scout Week in the city of Onaway. After pointing out that Girl Scouting celebrated its 66th birthday, March 12th, the proclamation recognized some of the influences and accomplishments of the movement both nationally and locally. Members of Mrs. Robert Penhale's Girl Scout Troop 57 were meeting to present the mayor with Big Waters Girl Scout Council patch. In other Onaway news, Clancy, a 7-month-old St. Bernard pup, probably saved the lives of his owners when a fire broke out at the Melvin Baracy residence on Dempsey Highway, Feb. 28, 1978. His barking woke the family and gave them time to leave th e smoke-filled house before it burst into flames.
