CAPTION: Apron and taxiway at the Onaway Airport was to have a blacktopped
surface in August 1979. The project, funded by state and local money, was
to eliminate the mud and gravel problems experienced at the facility. Earlier
in the spring, both areas were mud covered causing great difficulty to aircraft
attempting to reach the runway. With the completion of the project the facility
was to be "one of the finest airports in the state of Michigan for a community
this size," said Wally Peltz, County Airport commissioner. The estimated cost
of the 100-by-200 foot apron and 30-by-275 foot taxiway was $35,488. Lake
Construction Company of Indian River was scheduled to complete the project by
Aug. 27, 1979.
