From Presque Isle County Advance and Onaway Outlook May 9, 2019 |
CAPTION: Three ladies were considered the oldest mothers in Presque Isle County, having
more than 200 years of experience raising families. The ladies were Olive Shaloy, 93,
Wava McCreery, 93, and Mary Aikens, 96. They started raising their families before
Onaway was born. Members of the Onaway Community Federal Credit Union board of directors
would soon have plenty of room to stretch their feet out at board meetings in the new
credit union office. Participating in the groundbreaking ceremony, May 2, 1979, were
Art Grainger, Joe LaFave, Frank Covell, Len Gaynor, Jim Hall, Mike O'Meara, Joe Schell,
Wayne McFall and Terry Materna. New National Society members included Wendy Shaw, Shelly
Perkins, Irma Bishop, Lori Gillett, Marcy LaFave, Lisa Buzan, Judy Prough, Sharlott Swett,
Bill Rushton, Ben Penhale, Mark Dunbar, Amy Sorgenfrei, Dennis Schaar and Mike Decker.
