CAPTION: Onaway Football coach Leslie Nixon was going to rely on these young men to run the ball in the 1966 season. The names of the four gridders included Leon Nash (32), Jim Fusee (10), Bill Rodgers (22) and Arnie Vermilya (30). The linemen included Edgar McCreery, Clark Chapman, Chuck Bruder, Rod Batch, Carl Anderson and Art Nash. The first game was against Alcona. It would end up being a tough season for the Red Birds, as they struggled to post a win. The late 1960s did not provide too many wins at all as the program went 6-32 from 1965 - 1969. In other Onaway News, the reactivated Great Lakes Sportswear Manufacturer Company planned to add new employees in the immediate future. There were five women making sports jackets. Approximately 30 new sewing machines were installed when the plant was re-opened with plans to put someone at each machine.
