CAPTION: Seventy years ago, a letter from Navy serviceman Ralph R. Jones appeared on the front page of the Onaway News. It was addressed to "Scoop," who was thanked for sending him a copy of the paper to him. "It sure has build up my morale, when was very low at times, especially after we got hit a second time with a suicide plane." Jones said the war was over and that he had enough points to get out. His ship was headed for New York City for Navy Days. "I sure will be glad to get back in civilian life again." Jones wanted to go back to work at Pontiac Motors. "If I can get my job there again." The main purpose of the letter was to tell friends and family back home to not send anymore papers because they would not catch up with him. "I would like to thank you especially for everything you did for us boys in the armed forces."
