1978 - Onaway Plays Rogers City in Opening Game of 1978 Season From Presque Isle County Advance and Onaway Outlook September 20, 2018

  
CAPTION: There was joy in Onaway as the Cardinal football team opened their 1978 season
with an 8-0 victory agains a much-improved Rogers City.  Rick Waldi scored the only
touchdown of the game on a 1-yard plunge across the goal line.  "Defensively, we really
did well. Whenever you shut out an opponenet you're doing something right.  That's a hard
feat to accomplish in a high school football game since a fluke play can result in a man in 
the clear," said Onaway coach Chuck Abshagen.  Athletic director James Hall was gratified by 
the turnout over more than 1,000 fans and remarked on the excellent conduct.  A high level of
sportsmanship was evident in the stands as well as on the field, he said.
