 RAINY LAKE SCHOOL Rainey Lake School Case Twp.  T.33N. � R.3E Sec. 9. Frank Houghmaster built this
school which still stands today and is used as a hunting camp.   In 1915 Ed Walters
was director, Mark Trafflet was moderator, and Ike Divette was treasurer.  In 1938 it

The consolidation with Millersburg took place
 under the encouragement and direction of Mr. Cecil McGinn as he taught school in
Millersburg Teachers� monthly pay was $40 around the 1920 era.  A new one-horse buggy could be
bought for $40 at that time.  The Ronald Kovell family had a home built by a beaver
dam where Rainy Lake students and teachers would eat their lunch during especially
nice days in May.During the winter the Rainy Lake School would visit the Cement school (Millersburg),
vise-versa on special occasion like Valentine�s Day.  One of the parents would hitch
up his team to a sleigh with  straw piled high and take all the students, teachers,
and parents we would spend the day visiting, games, contests and having a taffy pull.
The teachers would cook up a batch of taffy, pour it inn a large platter then cool it
out on a snow bank until it was ready for everyone to have some to pull.  The one that
pulled the whitest taffy won the prize.  On the last day of school Margaret Beatway took her Rainy Lake students and
their
parents to visit Mackinaw Island in 1938.
