CAPTION: Happy residents of Tamarack Adult Care enjoyed entertaining visitors
to their home, Oct. 19, 1979, their smiling faces and pleasant demeanor impressed
guests as much as the efficient comfort and hospitality of the facility. House-
mother Barb Merchant opened the doors in the interest of public awareness.
The woman, who cares about people made a simple profound statement: "We're all
human beings who need help one way or another." In other Onaway news, Bill Painter
and "Baldy" McQuaid, Onaway area heating fuel distributors, testified at a hearing in
Lansing, Oct. 15, 1979. Responding to a request from Sen. Donald Riegle Jr., they
helpepd the United States Senate Labor and Human Resources committee examine the
problem of rising fuel costs and its impact on low income households in Michigan.
On the sports' pages, Mark Dunbar was profiled and earned offensive player of the week
honors, supported by Sears Catalog Store.
