Bowman Cemetery
St. Clair County, Michigan. Lat: 42° 50' 49"N; Lon: 82° 30' 51"W; St. Clair Township Section 24
The cemetery is on the north side of Yankee road between Yankee and Bowman Roads. This is an old family cemetery which was started by the Bowman-Chaffee-Juntin families circa 1840.
My name is Don Justin and I've been working at our old family cemetery on Yankee Road transcribing tombstones and general cleanup. My family, the Bowman-Chaffee-Justins, settled on farms at what is now Bowman Road and Yankee Roads in 1834. 11 young men from the family; 4 Chaffee brothers, 2 Bowman brothers and 5 Justin brothers served in the Civil War, mostly in Battery "H", 1st Michigan Light Artillery which 1st. LT. William Justin commanded. The battery was made up of mostly boys from St. Clair township and about a dozen are buried in the Bowman Cemetery. I will be working on the cemetery for the next several years and can provide you updated lists.
