Glenford S. Leonard, Sr.
Tuesday, December 24, 1974Kissimmee, Fla. -- Glenford S. Leonard, Sr., former Port Huron community leader, died Monday in Kissimmee Community Hospital after a short illness.
He was born April 10, 1898 in Manton, Mich., and moved to Port Huron in 1930. He and Miss Margaret Gunn were married June 15, 1918 in Detroit.
He worked more than 40 years with Michigan Bell Telephone Company, retiring in May, 1962 as chief switchman. He moved to Florida following his retirement. Prior to his leaving, he was honored locally by the Noon Optimist Club for his years of service to the community.
He volunteered more than 30 years of service to the Blue Water Council, Boy Scouts of America, earning both the Silver Beaver and Wood Badge Awards.
He also worked for many years on the former United Community Chest (now United Fund) of St. Clair County campaigns, and did photography for the City Recreation Department.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Glenford S. Leonard Jr., Oak Park; Dr. C. Wesley Leonard, Hancock, Me., and Alan H. Leonard, Greenbush, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Beulah Gruver, Detroit; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The remains will be in Stephens Funeral Home, Scottville, Mich., Thursday afternoon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Scottville.
