SMITH, Glenn Harrison, 87 and O'Dell, Muriel Etron Ruth, 84

were called by their Father from this life on May 7 and May 8, 2007.

Glenn was born in Port Huron to Stanley Guy Smith and Myrtle Louise Thomas on July 24, 1919.

Muriel was born in Ontario , Canada to Bruce O’Dell and Etron Best on September 11, 1922.

In his younger years Glenn worked at various occupations, including as a teller in the People’s Bank of Port Huron. He joined the U.S. Merchant Marines and served on the Liberty Ships providing food and supplies to the US troops in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After the war Glenn joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, attaining the rank of Captain, where he remained until his retirement in 1979. During his time with the Corps, Glenn worked throughout the Great Lakes area on various tug boats dredging the harbors and maintaining the shipping channels for commerce throughout the Great Lakes .

Muriel was a professional photographer, having spent many years with Askar-Shain in Port Huron . She was also very accomplished in water color painting and ceramics pottery. Muriel loved tending her garden with its roses, sweet peas and forget-me-nots, and was a devoted wife, traveling with Glenn as he worked throughout the Great Lakes area, renting apartments near his work so they would not be separated during his travels.

Glenn and Muriel met at a skating rink in Sarnia and were married May 1, 1948 in Port Huron . They celebrated their 59^th wedding anniversary with close friends just days before their deaths. Glenn always called and referred to Muriel as “My Sweetie Face,” and those who knew them were deeply touched by the love and devotion they had for one-another to the end.

Glenn’s and Muriel’s deep and abiding faith was an inspiration to others. They were members of the First United Methodist Church on Lapeer Ave. in Port Huron . Glenn was also the Chaplain for a local chapter of NARFE and was a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship.

Glenn and Muriel will be sorely missed by their many family members and wide circle of friends. They are survived by Glenn’s sister, Carol (Smith) (Leonard) Pagaran, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews of the U.S.A. and Canada .

A memorial service will be held for Glenn and Muriel at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Port Huron , with grave side services following.
