SMITH, Myrtle Louise (Thomas)
86, of 735 Pine ST., expired Tuesday, January 17, 1978 in Port Huron Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born December 28, 1891, in Marysville. She was a lifelong resident of the area.
She married Stanley Guy Smith on Oct. 29, 1914, in Port Huron. He died March 25, 1971.
Mrs. Smith worked for more than 50 years as a sales clerk in area stores. She also was active in numerous service and fraternal clubs.
She was a past commander of the Port Huron Tent Hive 1015 of the Maccabees and served as district manager for the Maccabees in St. Clair County from 1933 to 1948.
Mrs. Smith also was Past Noble Grand of the Oak Leaf Rebekah Lodge 113 and a past president of the Ladies auxiliary to Canton Huron 15 of the Odd Fellows. She received the Lady of Declaration of Chivalry for Meritorious Work from Canton Huron 15 in 1925.
Recently, she had been a member of the St. Clair County Council on Aging, the Salvation Army Golden Agers club and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 170.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Glenn H. Smith, Port Huron; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Carol) Scandalito, Bowling Green, Ky.; a sister, Mrs. Howard (Ethel) Gardner, Emmett; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 1978 in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, with the Rev. O. William Cooper, Jr., paster of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Norman O'Dell, Roland Ciel, Marc Leonard, Matthew Leonard, Bruce Postill and Paul Leonard.
