Michigan H.D. Willsey, Former Wells Resident, Dies Was a Veteran of the Civil War, and Moved to Traverse City
Two Years Ago Henry Denton Willsey, a Civil War veteran of the 152nd New
York Infantry, Co. D. died at his home in Traverse City March 10, at the age of
88 years. He was a resident of Tuscola county for 30 years, moving from Saginaw
to East Dayton in the spring of 1898. He served the township of Wells in
many ways as a member of the town board, supervisor, health officer and
justice, filling some chair at nearly every caucus and election. He was
born in Springfield, NY, Oct 22, 1842, and was married to Emeline VanBuren of
the same town November 12, 1868. Soon after their marriage, they moved to
Saginaw where they lived, with the exception of five years spent in Ann Arbor,
until they moved to East Dayton. Mr Willsey was converted and joined the Michigan Avenue M.E.
church of Saginaw at about 45 year of age and lived a Christian life from that
time. Two children, Bertha, aged seven years, and Jerud, aged four years,
died in Saginaw in 1881. One daughter, Mrs Oscar Myers, died in
1904. His wife died September 12, 1922. After the death of his wife
he spent his winters with his son Floyd in Wells until the death of the
latter's wife, then he spent them in Traverse City with his daughter, Miss
Cora, a teacher in Traverse City high school. Two years ago last August
he sold his home at East Dayton and moved to Traverse City. He was very
active for a man of his years. The past two years he drove a car from
Traverse City to spend Decoration Day at the home of his daughter in Dayton
Center making the trip both ways unaccompanied. He leaves a brother, Ervin, of Utica, NY, two daughters, Miss
Cora of Traverse City, and Mrs Edwin Hall of Dayton Center, one son, Floyd I,
of Flint, six granddaughters and a host of friends. Funeral services
were held at the Dayton M.E. church Thursday afternoon, Rev. H. Buell of
Mayville officiating. Mr and Mrs Marx of Clifford sang two

Tuscola Co, Michigan Cora May Willsey was born November 1, 1872 in Saginaw, the
daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Denton Willsey. She died June 7, 1948 at a
hospital in Utica. She was a member of the Methodist church and the
Eastern Star chapter. Miss Willsey was a graduate of the University of
Michigan with the A.B. degree. She taught in high schools about 40 years,
the last being in Traverse City, from which she resigned about seven years ago
due to ill health. Before going to Traverse City, she taught seven years
at Adrian. She was also head of the county normals at Tawas City, (the

Michigan Oscar Myers Friends of Oscar Myers, an eighty-seven year old resident of
the Fisher Convalescent home and a resident of Hurds Corners for many years
were sorry to hear of his death at the home Saturday, December 12th. The
funeral was Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Blackmore and Tubbs funeral parlors. obit 9/24/1904, "Tuscola County Advertiser",
Tuscola Co, Mich Bessie Willsey Myers Mrs. Bessie Myers died at the home of her parents August
26th, the funeral took place from the house on Sunday at two o'clock, Rev.

Co, Mich Gerald Myers Son of Oscar and Bessie Myers, buried in East Dayton
Cemetery. He leaves a baby sister. Edwin Hall, 64, died at his home in Dayton township December
29. He was born in Dayton township November 26, 1880, and as a young man
united with the East Dayton Methodist church, transferring his membership later
to the Dayton Center Baptist church. On January 1, 1906 he married Zella Willsey, who
survives. He also leaves five daughters, Mrs Luice Seward of Dearborn,
Mrs Maida Butterfield, Mrs Bessie Wilcox of Flint, Mrs Bernice Dickerson, Mrs
Virginia Rogers of Detroit; his aged mother, Mrs Mary Hall of Mayville, his twin
brother Edward Hall of Prescott, two other brothers Harry of Flint, Alva of
Detroit, three sisters, Mrs Emily Norton of Detroit, Mrs May Lanway of Lake
Orion, Mrs Mildred Hunter of Dayton, seven grandchildren. Funeral
services were held at the Dayton Center church. Rev. Bernard Didler
officiating, with burial in East Dayton cemetery. Zella Kathryn Willsey Hall Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Dayton
Center church for Mrs Zella Cathryn Willsey Hall, 78, who died Wednesday in
Detroit. She leaves five daughters, 11 grandchildren, and three

Mrs Lawrence (Elizabeth) Ronzi, Richard (Connie) Seward, and Mrs James
(Dolores) Breslin. Dear sister of Maida Butterfield, Bertha Wilcox, and
Mrs Lee (Virginia) Rogers. Also survived by eight grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday 11 a.m. at the Dearborn

Monday 4-9 p.m. obit Saginaw, Michigan - Sept 29, 2003 Butterfield, Maida R. (Hall), Freeland, Michigan (daughter
of Edwin & Zella Hall) Loving mother, grandmother, and sister passed away Sunday
morning, September 28, 2002 at Saginaw Geriatrics, where she had resided the
last nine years. Age 95 years. Maida Ruth (Hall) Butterfield was
born July 8, 1908 in Dayton Center, Mich. to the late Edwin Orlo Hall and Zella
Katherine Willsey. She was a graduate of Baker Business College in Flint,
and she worked for a couple of years as a stenographer at A.C. Spark Plug of GM
in Flint. There she met and married Edgar G. Butterfield June 1, 1935 at
Hall's Haven, the bride's family farm. Edgar predeceased her October 20,
1982. Maida and Ed were core members of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church
and later helped engineer and finance a mission church, Hopevale Memorial
Baptist Church in Saginaw Township. God, church, and family were central
in her life. She held numerous church offices, financial secretary,
recording secretary, President of the Women's Missionary Society, as well as
teaching Sunday School. Her strong faith was contagious. She also
loved to play bridge, golf, bowling, sewing, typing, reading and cooking.
Maida is survived by three daughters, Dian (John) Zahner,
Spokane, Wash., Patty (Richard) Yates, Freeland, and Bethany Rowell, Grand
Rapids, a son-in-law, Dale Harvey of Saginaw, 11 grandchildren, Laura Lee
Blair, Kevin (Santa) Harvey, Brian (Anita) Harvey, Marc (Deb) Zahner, Dane
Zahner, Kara (Steve) VonWorley, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Yates, Jason (Dannette)
Yates, Joel (Heidi) Yates, Joshua (Aimee) Rowell, Heidi Rowell and 16
great-grandchildren. A sister, Virginia Rodgers also survives
Maida. A daughter, Anita Harvey, and three sisters, Elizabeth Wilcox,
Mary Seward, and Bernice Dickerson have predeceased Maida. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday,
October 4, 2003 at Freeland United Methodist Church. Rev Jaye Reisinger
and Rev. Dan Davis will officiate with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery in
Freeland. Friends may call at the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E.
Washington, Freeland on Friday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and at the church on
Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service. Those planning an

donor's favorite charity. Bertha (Bess) Hall Wilcox died Sunday, January 5, 1997 at
Hilltop Manor, Roscommon. She was 86. She was born January 23, 1910
at Kingston, the daughter of Edwin and Zella (Willsey) Hall. She
graduated from Mayville High School with the Class of 1927. Survivors include a daughter, Sue (Graham) and son-in-law
Jack Fox of Houghton Lake; granddaughters, Natalie and husband Andy Farris of
Kansas City, Kansas, and Stacey and husband Erick Ciesliga of Shelby Township;
five great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Maida Butterfield of Saginaw and Virginia
Rogers of Venice, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents,

2, Thursday, June 13, 1985 Bernice G. Hall Dickerson Bernice Gertrude Dickerson, of Denton, died Tuesday, June 4,
1985 at Ypsilanti. She was 71. Mrs Dickerson was born July 1, 1913
at Silverwood, the daughter of Edwin and Zella (Willsey) Hall. She
married Ward Dickerson on March 5, 1932, in Mayville. She was a member of
the Faith United Methodist Church, Belleville. Besides her husband, Ward, she is survived by two
sons, David of Denton and Ronald of Flint; two grandchildren; and four sisters,
Mrs Lee (Virginia) Rogers of Venice, Florida; Mrs Maida Butterfield of Saginaw,
Mrs Mary Seward of Bradenton, Florida and Mrs Bertha Wilcox of Otisville.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Claudia Dickerson. Funeral services
were held Thursday, June 6 at Tiffin & Ransford Funeral Home,
Mayville. Rev. John Manning officiated and burial was in Rich Township

Blackmore & Tubbs Funeral Home Saturday morning. Interment at East
Dayton Cemetery. obit 10/15/1926 "Tuscola Co Advertiser", Wells,
Tuscola Co, Michigan Mrs Hattie Franklin Willsey, wife of supervisor Floyd L. Willsey
of Wells township, died at her home Saturday afternoon. She suffered a
stroke of paralysis last winter and another one Saturday and died before the
arrival of her physician. She was born in Kingston township August 25,
1889 and has always lived in Tuscola county. She was united in marriage
with Mr Willsey November 1, 1911, and besides the husband is survived by one
daughter, Marjorie, aged 9 years. She also leaves her parents Mr and Mrs
B.S. Franklin of Kingston township; one sister, Mrs James Cook of Caro, three
brothers, George Franklin of Rochester, Garfield Franklin of Durand, Kenneth
Franklin of Kingston. Funeral services were held at his home Tuesday
afternoon, Rev. J.T.M. Stephens officiating with burial in East Dayton
cemetery. Lyon, Marjorie I. (Willsey), East Tawas, Michigan Passed away Thursday, May 25, 2000. Age 83
years. Memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000
at Tawas United Methodist Church. She was born in Wells, Tuscola Co,
