In the death of James R. PERRY, which occurred in the General Hospital at Saginaw, Michigan Sunday evening, April 27, his many friends and neighbors of the surrounding country feel the loss of a true friend.

Mr PERRY was born Jan 12, 1842, in Arewell Parish, England. At the age of three years he came wth his parents to America. At the age of nineteen he enlisted in the Union Army serving until June 27, 1862, a private in Company I Eighty Third Infantry, at which time he was woulded in the battle at Gaines Mill. He was then taken to Belevue Hospital at New York City where he remained three months when he was able to return to his home in Erie, Pa.

In 1863 he again enlisted as a private in the 50th Company, Second Batallion, Veteran Reserve Copr, where he served until given his honorable discharge on Nov 5, 1864, at Harrisburg, PA.

Shortly after his release from the army he came to Michigan settling in Wells township where he again entered in the service of Uncle Sam; as he carried mail on foot through the wilderness from Saginaw to Port Sanilac.

In 1869 he was married to Mary E. PHELPS of Mayville, and took up his residence on his farm in Dayton township where he resided until his death. To this union four children were born all of whom are living. Nelson PERRY, of Detroit; Asa of Saginaw; Freeman of Owosso and Mrs. Nora PAGE of Clifford.

He was again married in 1885 to Mrs. Amanda PATTERSON who with his children, grandchildren and several great-grandchildren survive him.

Mr. PERRY was for many years a member of the Mayville Methodist Church and has lived a true christian life to the end; always seeing the good and beautiful in all earthly creations, being a friend to all, especially to the little children in whom he always saw much interest and whom he always loved to entertain.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: his aged brother Richard R. PERRY of Howard City; Mrs Mable LORD of Pen; Maurice PERRY, Mr and Mrs. Sanford TITUS and family, Ray TITUS and Mr. and Mrs. Argus RUMPH, of Flint; Orlando LEVALLEY, Mr and Mrs. KIRK and son, Mr. and Mrs C. VANDERWOORT, Mrs. John DUNHAM, Mrs Eva BECHTEL all of Fairgrove; Miss Iva LEVALLEY of Saginaw; Mrs Rebecca LEVALLEY and son of Columbiaville; Mr. and Mrs Bert PATTERSON and family. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church of Mayville.
