Use quotes to search for exact phrases, such as:

• "ann arbor"

Try alternative spellings using "OR" to separate them, like:

• conor OR connor

Try swapping first and last names, such as:

• "john geddes" OR "geddes, john"

Use square brackets [ ] to find terms a word or two away from each other, or braces { } to search for terms within several words of each other like:

• [st. cemetery]
• {john homestead}

Use a * as a wildcard at the end of a term or a ? within a term, such as:

• owe*
• jonath?n

Use a + symbol to require a term or a - symbol to exclude a term, such as:

• +arbor -ann

Combine multiple methods. Example:

• "huron r*" OR [huron river]
