Company E, 5th Michigan Infantry
Charles enlisted at Grand Rapids, Michigan, for 3 years of service at the age of 29 on January 26, 1864. He was wounded in action on May 8, 1864, at Todd's Tavern, Virginia. He transferred to Company E of the 5th Michigan Infantry on June 10, 1864 and was mustered out of Federal service at Jeffersonville, Indiana, on July 5, 1865. He is buried in the Fruitland Township Cemetery in Muskegon County, Michigan.
