Saugatuck Tar and Feathering Case Allegan News, December 29, 1922 Every seat in the court room was taken to hear about the progress of this suit. Circuit Court awarded Dick Lenters, of East Saugatuck $1000 damages after he was tarred and feathered by 8 men of the church congregation. The men went to Lenter's barn, blind folded him, took him to shed behind the church, then tarred and feathered him. Apparently, Lenters continuously spread statements that the minister had improper relations with a hired girl at Lenters household. In order to remove the tar and feathers, Lenters and his farm hand had to scrape the material off with a tin box. Image of newspaper article |
