Michigan Cavalry. He was the son of Marvin D. & Sally [Barker] Keeney of
Omer. He enlisted December 8, 1863 at E. Saginaw, MI. He was taken prisoner June 11,
1864 at Trevillian Station VA and was taken to the Andersonville Prison in Georgia on June
22, 1864 where he died January 11, 1865 of Scorbutus. He is buried there in grave

Felske and Eva, nee Streuer. His service was Sgt. Co. C 329th Infantry. He

- Charles E. Fritts, was born February 3, 1896 near Standish, the son of
Irvin Fritts and Mary Ellen, nee Sischo. His service was: Pvt. Co C 4th

- William LaMontagne was born in 1887 and died in 1983. He is

- Alexander Lee was born in Alger, Michigan on February 23, 1890, the son
of Hiram and Margaret Lee. He died on January 7, 1962 and is buried in the Clayton
Township Cemetery Section 108 in Arenac County, Michigan. He served as a Corporal during
WWI, unit served is unknown. - Contributed by Steven Crume

- Gustave Adolph Marks, was born April 5, 1889 in Sterling, the son of
Gottfried Marks and Augusta, nee Hertzberg. His service was as a Pvt. in the US Army.
He died April 29, 1968 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Albion, Calhoun Co.,

- Richard Julius Maybour, was born March 14, 1892 in Sterling, the son of
Julius Wilhelm Maibauer and Juliana, nee Templin. He was the husband of Adolphine
Augusta nee Bossbach. He died in Eden, Germany on May 16, 1919 while in service with
the Fourth Army. He is buried in Sterling

- Arthur Henry Wheeler, was born May 13 1890 in Standish, MI, the son of
Duncan Wheeler and Sylvania Jane, nee Shaw. He served as a Pfc. with Co. B, 21st Mich.
Eng. He died Jan. 8, 1944 in Standish and is buried in Woodmere Cemetery, Standish.
World War II
- Harold William Fritts was born March 14, 1923 in Melita. He
entered the U.S. Army March 23, 1943. He served with the 472nd Military Police Escort
Guard Company, enforcing military laws and regulations, maintaining order and control of
individuals and traffic in countries which U.S. forces were exercising Military
government, guarded prisoners and other foreign personnel in France & Germany.
He died March 1, 2000 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Saline, MI. - Contributed by Marcia

- Richard Lyman Lee was born December 8, 1927. He enlisted in the
U.S. Army on his 18th birthday and served in Germany during World War II and also in Viet
Nam, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He died April 16, 1967 and is buried in
Sims-Whitney Cemetery. Contributed by Dennis R. Lee

- S/Sgt. Weishuhn, Russell, Co. C. 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion,
101st Airborne Division. Son of Charles and Maggie (Trombley) Weishuhn. Born May 13, 1921
in the Keystone area near Whittemore, Michigan. Volunteered for the Paratroops and served
honorably through the war until 1945. Was married to Rachel Humerickhouse for over 57
years, when he died Feb. 22, 1999 in Port Charlotte, Florida. He is buried in Richland
Cemetery, Prescott, Michigan. Contributed by Rachel Weishuhn

- Lyle Mahlon Ostrander was born May 20, 1920 in Turner Township, Arenac
County, Michigan, son of Oscar and Carmen (Carpenter) Ostrander. Lyle entered military
service with US Air Corps on August 12, 1941, having serial number 26125105. On November
9, 1944 T/Sgt Ostrander, a gunner on the B-24 Liberator with the 791st Bomber Squadron /
467 Bomber Group was reported "MIA", later his status was changed to
"KIA" on May 10, 1945. Report of death by the War Department reads as follows:
Date of Death: November 9, 1944, Cause: Bailed out of plane. Place of Death: European
Area. Lyle is listed on the Tablet of the Missing or Dead at the Cambridge American
Cemetery, Cambridge, England. During his service to his country T/Sgt Lyle Ostrander was
awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Cluster.

- Robert Keith Ostrander was born August 7, 1925 in Twining, Arenac
County, Michigan, son of Oscar and Carmen (Carpenter) Ostrander. Robert entered the US
Army on April 3, 1945, serial number 36492741 and was with the 3281st Ordnance Base, light
truck driver. PFC Robert Ostrander was Honorably Discharged from service on October 11,
1946. PFC Ostrander served 8 months and 16 days overseas during his military service and
earned the following award and medals: Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Army
of Occupation Medal Japan. Robert Ostrander died on December 22, 1977 in Genesee County,
Michigan and is buried in Cedar
Valley Cemetery, Arenac County, Michigan.

- Glenn Willis Ostrander was born on October 8, 1922 in Twining, Arenac
County, Michigan, son of Oscar and Carmen (Carpenter) Ostrander. Glenn entered the US Army
on December 29, 1942, serial number 36415594. Sgt Ostrander served his country in the
battle of Luzon, along with other duty stations of course. When Sgt Glenn Ostrander was
Honorably Discharged from service on January 19, 1946 he was serving as a Military Police
Office, after earning the following Decorations and Citations for his service: Victory
Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star,
Phillippine Liberation Ribbon, 3 Overseas Service Bars, 1 Service Stripe and a Good
Conduct Medal. Glenn died on December 7, 1981 in Genesee County, Michigan.

- Floyd Burton Ripenbark was born on July 29, 1918 in Iosco County,
Michigan to Floyd G and Zelta (Irish) Ripenbark. Floyd was a resident along with his
parents and other family members of Arenac County when he entered the US Army on April 29,
1943, serial number 36850148. Floyd was a Private with the 3612th QM TRK CO as a Heavy
Truck Operator. Private Ripenbark was Honorably Discharged on December 29, 1945, returning
to Arenac County at that time. Private Ripenbark received the following Ribbons and
Citations during his military service: AM Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, American
Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal, Rifle Marksman. Floyd died on
September 7, 1970 in the VA Hospital, Wayne County, Michigan and is buried at North View
Cemetery in Dearborn, Wayne County, Michigan.
