Van Kirk, James Burns.
Born March 24, 1823 in Warren County, NJ, came to Michigan about 1860.
Date of death: 17-Sep-1872 in Schoolcraft, MI. Father of Thomas, James served
in Civil War, 7th Michigan Cavalry, Company H (and other units), as a Private.
He enlisted in the Civil War in 1863 and was in Washington, D.C. when Lincoln
was assassinated. Enlisted Dec. 25, 1863 at Schoolcraft, MI.
Discharged Nov. 18th, 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio. Photo before 1872.

Van Kirk, Thomas Jones
was born 1855 & died Dec. 5th, 1937 in Kalamazoo, he married Carrie
Eugenia Denison on Dec. 28th, 1897. They had 2 daughters, Alice VanKirk
(m. Paul Travis) & Abby Jane Van Kirk (m. Ernest Tozer). They
lived on Portage Rd. Carrie Denison is the daughter of Hiram Denison
(Postmaster in MI) & Louisa (nee Kelsey) McOmber Denison. Photo Circa

MI. Ruth was Valedictorian of Kellogg High School in 1940 at age 16,
she graduated with her older brother.
