LAPEER COUNTY

Wm. Webster, of Lapeer, has been adjudged a bankrupt.—The young ladies of the Universalist church in Lapeer are to give the cantata of the Flower Queen some evening this week.—The Union School house at Lapeer has been removed to make room for the new building.—They are talking of reorganizing the Lapeer band.—The co-partnership which has existed between Ward H. Jennings of Lapeer, and Wm. H. Jennings now of Detroit, under the name of W. H. Jennings & Bro., for the past twenty-five years, was dissolved on the 11th instant. The firm during its existence has suffered from five fires, involving a net loss of over $50,000, and yet made money the Clarion says.—B. B. Redfield of Lapeer who was president of the day at the Orion Sunday School picnic was on that occasion presented with a beautiful bible by the scholars of the District school he taught at Orion 30 years ago.—Messrs. A. & W. A. Williams of Attica have shut down their mills until October.—An Imlay City man is going into ectasies [sic] over a little event—three calves, seventeen pigs, six kittens, and two babies.—The Indians in a camp near Imlay City drive away the women of that village from berry gathering by indecent exposures.—The Congregational Society of Imlay City have decided to erect a church and appointed a building committee.—The Almont Herald says that a few days ago Messrs Francis and Ralph Darby, (twin brothers) celebrated their 72d birthday. They are both enjoying very good health and Francis works every day at his trade, while Ralph does but little, being troubled with the phthisic.—On the 14th inst., as the stage from Almont arrived within a short distance of Metamora, the horses on approaching a steep hill, became unmanageable,—one of them kicking furiously, and getting over the neck-yoke, when they suddenly turned up an embankment, overturned the coach with seven or eight passengers most of whom were more or less injured. Mrs. P. Frankford, of Attica, was the only one seriously hurt.
