Lapeer County. Beefsteak is selling at 25 cents a pound at Lapeer. Rev. Robert Emerick succeeds Rev. Geo. Wilson as resident pastor of the M. P. church in Lapeer. Mrs. J. W. Tucker, of Lapeer, mother of ex-alderman Tucker, died at the latter's residence in the second ward Saturday morning, aged 80 years. On Monday morning, June 11th, an incendiary poured kerosene oil on an unoccupied blacksmith shop at Lapeer, and before the fire was subdued three buildings had been destroyed. Says the Lapeer Clarion: Harvey Mellen, a former Lapeer county mail man, met with a severe loss by fire on Thursday of last week. His mill and lumber stock at Bagley was consumed, involving a loss of over $30,000. Says the Lapeer Democrat: Supervisor J. B. Wilson of Arcadia thinks his the healthiest township in the State. Out of a population of 1,023 there were but seven deaths in the township in 1881—and there isn't a doctor, minister, lawyer or saloon in the township either. Says the Lapeer Clarion: A consignment of Limburger cheese for John A. Bueger, lying in state at the D. & B. C. freight house last week, nearly depopulated the ward with its herculean odor. It is proposed to quarantine the station to prevent the spread of the cheese. On Sunday, June 1, two barns in the town of Dryden, situated on a rented farm belonging to James Hodges, were destroyed by fire, together with most of their contents, including a reaper and mower belonging to S. Berreger, wagon, etc. Loss $1,000; insured for $300 in the Lapeer County Farmers' Mutual. It is thought the fire was occasioned by careless smoking of pipes by young men in the vicinity.
