LAPEER COUNTY. North Branch has several cases of scarlet fever. The Hadley creamery will commence operations this week. The creamery at Almont was opened last week. The first day 5,000 pounds of milk were received. William Hatch, of Almont, was thrown from his wagon last week and severely injured, his shoulder being dislocated. James T. Vincent, of Lapeer, has received notice of his appointment as major and judge advocate of the Michigan state troops. The three-year-old son of Richard Burgess, of North Branch, ran against a pail of boiling water which his mother was carrying and was severely scalded. Mrs. Elijah Bartlett, of Dryden, secured a divorce from her husband last week and he has married Bell Staley, the young woman who sued him for seduction. R. King, of Lapeer, has lately bought $6,000 worth land in Oscoda county. He now owns 12,000 acres of timber land there. He is also owner of 6,000 acres of choice farm land in Lapeer county. Ira Shock, of Lapeer township, found in a creek last week a number of curious animals half fish and half frog. They had hind legs like a frog but no fore legs. They had tails like fish and propel themselves with that member. They live like fish but lack the fins and other distinguishing marks of the fish tribe.
