Lydia Anne Picking was born at Mt. Pelier, Williams Co., Ohio, April 6, 1853, and died July 13, 1913, aged 60 years, 3 months and 7 days. She was married April 9, 1882, to Azle O. Belcher at Rolland Mich. They came to Millbrook Township in April, 1894, and settled on the farm where she died. She was stricken with paralysis of the brain Wednesday, July 9, and all that loving hands could do for her relief of suffering was done but she passed away Sunday p.m. at 5 o'clock. She was a faithful wife, a kind mother and a good neighbor. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, six sons, Henry G., Walter C., and John E., who live at home, William F. of Ionia, Oscar A., and Calvin A. of Hamlin, Iowa, two sisters and one brother, six grandchildren beside a host of friends. The funeral was held at the Blanchard M.E. church Wednesday, July 15, at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. A.J. Preston, of Millbrook. The relatives who attended from away were the daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Reed and children, of Ionia, the son, Wm. and wife and children, of Ionia, Calvin, from Iowa, one sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Heckman, of Detroit, a brother-in-law, G.W. Belcher, of Rolland, Lenawee Co., Mr. and Mrs. Howard Umphy, of Remus. The son Oscar, of Iowa was unable to get here. The church was filled with sorrowing neighbors and friends. There were 27 conveyances in the procession which showed the respect and esteem in which the departed was held in the community where she was so well known for so many years. The remains were laid to rest in the Decker Cemetery, Millbrook Township. Note: 1. Rolland should be Rollin, Lenawee County, MI. |
