Listed in the Michigan records as Jackett instead of Juckett, Ashley was from London, Michigan, enlisting for 3 years of service at age 33 on August 10, 1862. He took the muster oath on August 30, 1862.He served with the 5th until he became ill and died of disease at Alexandria, Virginia, on August 3, 1863. He was buried in the National Cemetery at Alexandria.
He was the brother of Albert J. Jackett, Company I, 2nd Michigan Infantry.
