What's New!!

09/01/2017:First of all I am new to the Ottawa County website, though not new to MIGenWeb or the USGenWeb Project. My name is Jan Cortez and I am the County Coordinator for this site.

I have spent quite a bit of time on correcting links since we have moved the MIGenWeb main site from the .net server to the .org server. I apologize for the dust as we reorganize. If you find any links tha aren't correct, please let me know. I'm also very ready to add anything that you might have to add to the site, and am also looking for additions as well. Evelyn did such a wonderful job in working the site, so she very hard to follow, although I will do my best.

I'm sorry to say that I don't live in Ottawa County, so I won't be of much help in the county itself, but I do live in Michigan, about two and a half hours northeast. My basic interest in Ottawa County are my VanArsdale roots and my interest in my Dutch Heritage.

 About the The Michigan US GenWeb Volunteer Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Michigan Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Michigan, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. 

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Brian and Terri Rene (DaVar) Howard have been responsible for Ottawa County from the summer of 1996 until the Spring of 2002, when Evelyn Sawyer took over the site until May of 2014.
