Jan 1st – New Years day. Thermometer 30° in the morning and at nine P.M. It was a pleasant day. Myself and Sarah went to Grandmother’s. We called at Mr. Terrys as we went there. Mr. Powell + Wife came to Mr. Terry’s And we all went to Grandmother’s. It was tolerable Sleding with a light load.
Jan 20th – Best Wheat 65
Jan 16th – A. B. Wood bought Jonathan N. Lunds share (one sixth) in the PaperMill and the land adjoining known as the Fleming land in Geddesburgh and Lunds share in the Ann Arbor Paper Mill.
Jan 22nd – Charles ----- Butterfield was killed by a tree falling on him.
January – was ---- --til month for winter. Thermometer the lowest was 05° above zero.
February 1st – It began to snow about 3 O’clock. Cold + snowed until ------- next morning. The Snow was 6½ in deep.
Feb. 4th 3rd-11th– Thermometer -00° below, -07° below, -14° below in morning, 11th – Ther. -2° below, -1° below, 12 above, 23rd -14°below, 20° Noon, .00° at Nine P.M. 24th - -06° below, 25th - 20° above, 26th – 00 all in morn.
February was a cold month. The first ten days after the first day tolerable Sleighing. The rest of the month good sleighing. Half of the month first rate sleighing
March 1st – 05° above. 2:00 00°, 3rd – -02° below, 4th - -02° below. 5th - -05° below, 6th – 06° above. First week in March very cold. Sleighing poor. Began to Snow at 6 O’clock P.M.
March 10th – Last day of Sleighing this winter.
March 19th – I am Fifty seven years old to day. A fine day. Thermometer 30° morn, 55° Noon + 38° at Nine P. M. My health good the past year. Roads bad now. Huron high. Highest the 18th of March.
May 26th – Has been a very wet month. Huron 4 foot -----.
June 10th – Huron 5 feet 4 ins at Sawmill Sill a wet time.
May 9th – Orange Green died aged 71 years + one month. Orange Green came to Washtenaw in 1827
June 10th – Huron 5 feet 3 in on Sawmill Sill. highest this year.
June 10th – Robert Geddes had some kind of a Fit. He fell down at the dinner table or rather would have fell if he had not been caught. He came to in five minutes in motion. He was not rational until 4 O’clock Next morning.
June 30th – Thermometer 97° at half past two P.M. We have had two weeks of warm weather. Thermometer every day above 90°. Rainy weather start June 12th
June 17th – Hiram Savage buried in Orange Co N.Y. in the 59 year of his age of Palsy.
July 24th – Harvesting + Hauling in Grain about done. Wages 1.50 + 1.25 per day. Weather first rate. Grain difficult to gather. The Crop but middling. The Rust very bad. Midge bad.
Aug. 10th – Peter B. Black of this village died to day about Six O’Clock P.M. His disease was Paralysis of some kind. He was about Six months sick. He was 27 years old last time the 18th. He was buried next day in Botsford burial ground.
Sept. 16th – John Geddes bought a Latin Grammar
Oct 7th – Thermometer 28° this morning two weeks before it was 33°. It was four of five times 34° in the morning.
Oct 7th – This was the first morning below 32° this fall.
Oct 11th – The new Bell for Yps. Pres. church arrived in Ypsilanti. It weighs 2398 lbs and Cost $800.00 in Troy, N.Y. I paid Fifteen dollars toward the Bell.
Nov 27th – Winter commenced to day. It began to Snow + Kept snowing until six inches. heavy Snow fell.
Dec 8th – A cold windy day. river closing up with ice.
15th – Three inches Snow this morning. 13th + 14th Snow thawed off.
15 – Wheat 1.00. Corn .50. Hay 5. + 6.00 per ton.
Dec 27th – John weighs 103 lbs., gain 6 lbs., Hight 4.10¼ gain 1¼ in
Sarah weighs 95 lbs, loss 4 lbs., Hight 4.11 3/8
Rachel weighs 62 lbs, fains 4 ½ lbs., Hight 4.5½ , gain 2 in.
