Read the tips below at least once! When you enter a search term in this tool and click "Search," it uses Google to look for that search term across the entire MIGenWeb.org domain or one of its constituent sites depending on which option you select from the drop-down menu.
Search Tips:
If you are interested in a specific county or project, check the drop-down menu above. If that county or project is marked with *, then you will need to select that county because it lives outside the main MIGenWeb file space.
BE SPECIFIC. Simple, generic searches return too many matches to be helpful. Use quotes to search for exact phrases, such as:
Try alternative spellings using "OR" to separate them, like:
Try swapping first and last names, such as:
- "austin lowe" OR "lowe, austin"
Use AROUND(X) where X is the number of nearby words to consider close enough to match.
This creates a proximity search to look for one phrase within so many words of another, such as:
- earhart AROUND(4) dixboro
Combine multiple methods. Examples:
- "john smith" OR "john smythe" OR "smith, john" OR "smythe, john"
- cemetery AROUND(3) "medina twp"
