FAIRCHILD, JANE A.

Sheridan - Jane A. FAIRCHILD, 54, of 403 St. Clair Street, Sheridan, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at her home. She was born July 9, 1945, in Sheboygan, Wis., the daughter of Allan H. and Dorothy VOSS DIRKSE. Ms. FAIRCHILD had been a resident of Sheridan since 1998, formerly of Greenville. She was a teacher at Central Montcalm Sheridan Elementary School in the Special Educatiion Resource room. She was a member of the MEA and the CMEA and also the Oakwood Christian Reformed Church, Belding. She is survived by her parents, Alland and Dorothy DIRKSE of Oostburg, Wis.; one sister and brother-in-law, Trudi and Michael LAGANOWSKI of Oostburg, Wis.; one brother and sister-in-law, Allan Jr. and Terry DIRKSE of Oostburg, Wis.; two nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas JACKSON on July 19, 1993. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Christian Reformed Church, Belding, with the Rev. Jeff Meyer officiating. Following cremation, final interment of the cremains will be in the Hill Cemetery, Wayland. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Stebbins and Simpson Funeral Home, Sheridan. Memorial considerations are suggested to the Central Montcalm Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Lowell - Ronald Firmie FAIRFIELD, 62, formerly of Fallasburg Park, passed away Saturday, May 22, 1999. Mr. FAIRFIELD was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of American Legion Post 153. He is survived by his children, Ron and Luann FAIRFIELD of White Cloud, Sherry and Juan TAGGLE of Grant, Cynthia FAIRFIELD of Newaygo, Vicki PANTOJA of White Cloud, William FAIRFIELD of Grand Rapids; his mother, Ida ONAN of Lowell; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Michael FAIRFIELD of Lowell, Samuel VAN DEN BROECK of Montague, Raymond and Cheri FAIRFIELD of Cedar, Minn.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Rebecca GRUMMET of Gowen, Judy and Butch BOYNTON of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were today at 1 p.m. at the Roth-Gerst Chapel, Lowell, with the Rev. Karl Gruno officiating. Interment was in Alton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Greater Grand Rapids.

Belding - Glenn E. FARMER, 56 of Orleans, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at his home. He was born May 29, 1943, in Davy, W.Va., the son of Harry and Mildred HALL FARMER. Glenn proudly served his country during the Vietnam War from July 1965 to July 1968. He was a member of American Legion Post 203 in Belding. On Aug. 8, 1992, he married Mary Lee HOPKINS in Orleans. She survives along with their children Dana MC COY and special friend Tom of Fenwick, Vicki LIGHT and special friend Brendon, Tammy FARMER and special friend John, all of Warren, Becky FARMER ans special friend Wes of Macomb Township, Terry Albert MC COY of Orleans, Don LIGHT of Detroit; six grandchildren, Russell MC COY, Thomas Glenn WILLIAMS, Kaylie MC COY, Haylie MILLER, Jessica LIGHT, Christopher JOHN; two sisters, Nina FARMER and Brenda STEWARD, both of North Carolina; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Melvin and Peggy FARMER of Missouri, Steve FARMER of Hawaii; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Albert and Patricia HOPKINS; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Albert and Grace HOPKINS of Orleans, Sandra and Robert KELLY of Mulliken, Dennis and Donna HOPKINS of Fenwick, Douglas and Ronda HOPKINS of Trout Creek; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend and nurse, Shawn DAVIS. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Ellis SHEPHERD; and one nephew, Raymond STEWART. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Donald Woolum officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Services. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Kalamazoo - Michael Walter FARRELL, 40, Galesburg, died suddenly Friday evening, April 16, 1999. Michael was born June 16, 1958, in Grand Rapids, the son of Patrick and Kay SMITH FARRELL. He was a Kalamazoo area resident for the past 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and antique tractor pulling. Michael and his family owned and operated Kalamazoo Metal Recyclers Inc., where he worked as yard foreman. He married Bridgit M. QUILLAN on April 6, 1990. He is survived by his wife, Bridgit M. FARRELL; his children, Michael II and Patrick FARRELL, Kenneth, Daniel and Amanda BROWN; his parents, Patrick and Kay FARRELL of Otsego; his sisters and brothers, Linda and Bruce LAMPHEAR of Grandville, Patrick and Angela FARRELL of Kalamazoo, William and Lori FARRELL of Galesburg, Lisa and Todd GOOSEN of Middleville; nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Parnell. Intement will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to an educational fund for his children.

Howard City - Charles S. FENNESSY, 96, of Lamont, formerly of Kalkaska, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Metron of Lamont. He was born Dec. 17, 1903, in Chicago, the son of Thomas and Delores HIGGINS FENNESSY. During his working years, he was employed at various milk plants for most of his life before retiring in 1968. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Ruth FENNESSY of Sand Lake, Richard and Nora FENNESSY of Cleveland; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday at the Germain-Mohnke Funeral Home, Howard City, with Pastor Mark Mitchell officiating. Burial is in the Reynolds Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and prior to services Saturday.

Eaton Rapids - Harriet Mae FISK, 85, Eaton Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999, at her residence. She was born Oct. 14, 1913, in Vermontville, the daughter of Charles and Nora REYNOLDS WRIGHT. Mrs. FISK was a member of Assembly of Yahweh Church, Eaton Rapids. She had worked with the Foster Grandparent program at Lockwood Elementary School, Eaton Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert FISK, in 1974. She is survived by 11 children, Forabell BENEDITTINE, Phyllis HANSEN, Jean ROSS, June SORENSEN, Hubert James FISK, Frieda THOMAS, Linda and Larry EICKENROTH, Mike FISK, Silas NICHOLS, Ellabeth and Ed GRAHAM; 28 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy IZZARD and Lillian CRANDELL; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Samuel Graham, of Assembly of Yahweh Church, officiating. Graveside services will follow at Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to Assembly of Yahweh Church in memory of Harriet M. Fisk.

Fisk, Richard O.

FLACK, ROBERT M.

Greenville Independent, Wednesday, January 13, 1904
Robert M. Flack died at the soldiers' home at Grand Rapids, and the remains were taken to Constantine for burial. Capt. Flack was a soldier of the Mexican war, and earned his title during the civil war, being captain of company F, Eighty-fourth regiment of Pennsylvania volunteers. He was 80 years of age.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, with the Rev. George Fekete of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Howard City - Jack FLYNN, 58, of Howard City, passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Kelsey Memorial Hospital, Lakeview. He was born Aug. 15, 1941, in Grand Rapids, the son of Raymond and Dorothy CONLEY FLYNN. During his working years, he worked as a brick and block layer for more than 28 years, and also enjoyed woodworking. In 1979, he married Donna ZIELINSKI, who survives. Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Kathy FLYNN of Jenison, Kevin and Michelle FLYNN of Grand Rapids, Mike and Lisa FLYNN of Wyoming; one daughter, Kelly FLYNN of Fennville; one stepson, Art and Andrea BURROWS of Wyoming; one stepdaughter, Emmy BURROWS of Wyoming; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Mike FLYNN of Alabama, James FLYNN of Wyoming; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Bea and Louis PHILLIPS of Kentwood, Pat MILLER of Sparta, Joanne LADOUSIER of Caledonia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heckman-Mohnke Funeral Home, Howard City, with Pastor Mark Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery. Memorials to the American Lung Association may be left at the funeral home, where friends may call Tuesday from noon until time of service.

Will Force Is Buried Tues.

LANGSTON - William Force, age 72, life-long resident of Langston passed away at his home early Sunday morning following a cerebral hemorrhage.

He was born at Langston in 1874. In 1896 he married Mabel Sayles and they have made their home two-miles north of Langston since that time.

Those that mourn their loss besides his widow, are one daughter, Mrs. John Kortes, of Portland, two grandsons, one grand-daughter, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews also a niece, Mrs. Evin Ball, who has always made her home with them.

Funeral arrangements were completed by the Youngman Brothers of Lakeview. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday at two o'clock. Burial was at the Langston cemetery."

WILLIAM FORCE, 72, lifelong resident of Langston and prominent in this area, died early Sunday morning at his home two miles north of Langston.

He was born in Langston in 1874. In 1896 he married Mabel Sayles. Surviving, besides his widow are a daughter, Mrs. John Kortes of Portland who is in a hospital in Texas with an injury sustained while vacationing in Mexico; three grandchildren and one great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. One niece, Mrs. Elvin Ball, lives at the Force home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the home. Burial was in Langston cemetery."

Belding - Bertha FORD, 78, of Belding, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at United Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Greenville. She was born May 2, 1921, in Springport, the daughter of Claude and May SMITH. On Aug. 13, 1939, in Eaton Rapids, she married Lester FORD. He preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jack in 1962, Jim in 1985; and one grandson, Derek NICHOSON in 1985. She is survived by her children, Carol and Gene NICHOSON of Belding, Connie and Daniel REED of Fort Meyers, Fla., Karen and Larry PETERSEN of Gowen, Pam and Glenn HERPOLSHEIMER of Grand Rapids, Patrick and Susan FORD of Lowell, Michael and special friend Tracy COLLE of Belding; one daughter-in-law, Gail FORD of Greenville; and 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tueaday at Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with the Rev. Richard Shindorf officiating. Interment will be in Bostwick Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Montcalm County Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Belding - Marian June FOSS, 91, of Rockport, Texas, formerly of Belding and Saranac, passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Rockport Care Center. She was born May 26, 1908, in Stanton to Norman and Nora MILLER RHOADES. Marian was a retired school teacher, having taught at Belding High School from 1955 to 1958, later at Saranac, Novi and Hesperia high schools. She was a life member of the National Ladies Auxiliary VFW, a 50-year member of the Michigan National Retired Teachers Association and held memberships in the Michigan Education Association, Ferris State College Alumni and Michigan State University Alumni. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Athur M. and Laurel FOSS of Rockport, Texas; one grandson, Phillip and Gina FOSS of Troy; one granddaughter, Korin; one brother, Forrest RHOADES of Saranac; four sisters, Donna MERIZON of Ada, Clista MILLER of Saranac, Helen HODGES of Ionia, Dorothy RUSSELL of Star, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with the Rev. Stanley Hagemeyer officiating. Interment will be Excelsior Township Cemetery, Kalkaska. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Olsen-Kiste VFW Ladies Auxiliary or the Saranac Community Church.

Edmore - Jack Dale FOSTER, 66, of Edmore, passed away Friday evening, Nov. 5, 1999, at his home. He was born June 6, 1933, in Edmore, to Leo N. and Thelma LISCOMBE FOSTER. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and was employed by General Electric and Hitachi Magnetics for 34 years, retiring in 1988. He also was a volunteer Home Township fireman for 23 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1935 to 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce. Mr. FOSTER is survived by his wife, Gail R. JENSEN FOSTER, whom he married Aug. 30, 1952, in Edmore; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dan and Becky FOSTER, Scott FOSTER, all of Alaska, Joseph and Sally FOSTER of Stanton; four grandchildren, Colt, Renee, Cody, Christopher; and one brother and sister-in-law, Leo Jr. and Joan FOSTER of Greenville. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Edmore, with Pastor Wayne Hoedt officiating. Interment will be in Vinewood Cemetery. Friends may call at Stebbins-McCullough Funeral Home, Edmore, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

Fowler - Cathryn E. FRECHEN, 91, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999. She was born in Dallas Township, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine GELLER GEORGE. She was formerly of Fowler and lived in the Long Lake area for 51 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding, was the owner/operator of a bar in St. Johns and Fowler and of Brookside Grocery in Long Lake in Ionia County. On July 28, 1933, she married Harold "Bud" FRECHEN. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1971. She is survived by one sister and brother-in-lw, Joan and Stanley SMITH of rural St. Johns; one brother, Joseph GEORGE of rural Fowler, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Alice SLOWINSKI; two brothers, Roy and Leo GEORGE. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial will be in Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation begins Friday at 2 p.m. at the George Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Fowler, with rosary being prayed at 3 and 8 p.m.

Carson City - Norman Lee FRY, 72, Carson City, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at his daughter's home in Belding. He was born July 23, 1926, in New Haven, W.Va., to Harold Sr. and Florence LEE FRY. He worked on the family dairy farm for four years, then at Federal-Mogul in Greenville for 33 years, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed collecting and working on antique cars. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don BROOKS of Belding, Jill and Randy THOMPSON of Saranac; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Clifford and Bonnie FRY, Jack FRY, all of Carson City; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Cecil and Harold FRY of New Haven, W.Va.; and extended family, Betty LAY, Tammy and Garold BARNES of Athens, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence FRY; and one brother, Harry Russel FRY. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Carson City, with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Interment will be in Palo Cemetery, Palo. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ionia Area Hospice.
