O'CONNOR, JOSEPH D. "JOE"

Greenville - Joseph D. "Joe" O'CONNOR, 61, Greenville, passed away early Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 1999, at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus, Grand Rapids. The son of Sylvester L. and Mildred Edith SNYDER O'CONNOR, he was born Jan. 12, 1938, at Greenville. Joe was a 1956 graduate of Greenville High School and farmed most of his life. He also was employed at Federal-Mogul Corp. for 35 years, retiring in 1995. For several years he served as chief union steward for Local 2017. On Oct. 24, 1987, at Shiloh, he married Sharon COOPER, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Thresa BILLS and Doc HANSEN of Stanton, Tami and Boyd CONDON Jr. of Gowen, Missy and Cory DE VRIES of Rockford; three sons, William and Jane O'CONNOR of Fenwick, Thomas O'CONNOR of Gowen, John O'CONNOR of Greenville; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Marge O'CONNOR of Caledonia; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert O'CONNOR and William O'CONNOR. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Brown-Teman Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Gary Jacobsen, pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, officiating. Envelopes for memorial contributions to the Future Farmers of American chapter at Greenville High School or the Flat River Community Library are available at the funeral home where the family will receive relatives and friends today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Lowell - Kyran "Jay" O'CONNOR, 63, of Vergennes, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 1, 1999. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert SCHAFER; parents, Kyran and Alice O'CONNOR; and one brother, Thomas O'CONNOR. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, May Ellen; his children, Kathleen SCHAFER and friend David STRAHAN, James and Kathy SCHAFER, Thomas and Carie O'CONNOR, Tammy and David MUNRO; his grandchildren, Christopher BLAIN, Jamie SCHAFER, Jim and Jenny SMITH, Matt ALEXANDER, Patrick O'CONNOR, Tony and Jessica ADAMS; two great-grandsons, Calob BLAIN and Triston SMITH; one great-granddaughter, Darian MORGAN; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Geraldine and George DEMENOV, Jenny MC GUIRE; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church, Parnell, with the Rev. Ronald Hutchinson officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with scripture service at 4 p.m. at Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, Lowell, and Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

OKE, ROBBY

Daily News, Greenville, MI - Monday, August 9, 1999
Rockford - Robby OKE, 20, of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, Aug. 7, 1999, from injuries received in a vehicle accident. Robby graduated from Rockford High School in 1997 and went to work full time for his father and uncle at Rockford Tire. Robby, following a chip off the old block, worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed hot rods and four-wheel recreation vehicles. Presently he was restoring his 1980 Camero and it was ready to paint. Eventually Robby wanted to go to college and was saving his money to pay for it. He is survived by his father, Ralph OKE and his wife, Luann, of Rockford; his mother, Lorraine BENNETT and her husband, Ron, of Greenville; one brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Dana OKE of Lynchburg, Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Shelly and Dale TEN BRINK of Grand Haven; his grandmother, Theresa OKE; one nephew, Devin TEN BRINK; one niece, Kara OKE; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford, with the Rev. Wayne Wheeler Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Rockford Cemetery. Friends may celebrate Robby's life with his family today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

OLSEN, GARY D.

Lakeview - Gary D. OLSEN, 67, of Gowen, passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in Grand Rapids. He was born May 30, 1932, in Gowen, to Alton and Vivivan OLSEN. He is survived by his wife, Cella, whom he married Dec. 7, 1984. Besides his wife, Mr. OLSEN is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Janis and Marvin THRUSH of Greenville, Rebecca OLSEN of Grattan; one son, Samuel; three stepdaughters, Laura MEIER of Florida, Cheryl NORMAN of Rockford, Marie and Ed ANDERSON of Trufant; two stepsons, Jerry and Dawn THEBO of Greenville, Gregory and Gail THEBO of Trufant; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy and Garrett REER of Greenville, Judy and Dick BURNS of Blanchard. Mr. OLSEN was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Huggard Bible Church, 8860 21 Mile Rd., Sand Lake, with pastors Daniel Nave, Darrell Ellis and Burt Boes officiating. Interment will take place in the Langston Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Those who wish may contribute to Huggard Bible Church in Mr. Olsen's memory. Youngman-McCullough Chapel, Lakeview is handling the arrangements.

OLSEN, HOWARD

Daily News, Greenville, MI - Monday, March 29, 1999
Belding - Howard OLSEN, 68, Belding, passed away Saturday, March 27, 1999, at United Memorial Hospital, Greenville. He was born April 1, 1930, in Fenton, to William and Rosett OLSEN. Howard served in the U.S. Marines from 1948 to 1952. He began his apprenticeship in tool and die at Gibson's in Greenville. He later retired as superintendent of tool and die at General Motors Corp. in 1991, after 33 years of service. He had lived in the Belding area for 33 years. He married Eleanore TROTTIER of Massachusetts in 1952. She survives along with their children, Richard and Audrey OLSEN of Eagle, George and Anna OLSEN of Belding; seven grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jack RANDALL of Sheridan; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ronald OLSEN of Texas, William and Kathleen OLSEN of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by his father in 1935 and his mother in 1946. Funeral and committal services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

OLSON, EDWIN L.

Stanton - Edwin L. OLSON, 81, Stanton, died Jan. 30, 1999, in Sarasota, Fla. He was born Oct. 20, 1917, in Bark River. He retired from General Motors in 1978 after 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the Oldsmobile Outdoor Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Karen E. DUDLEY and Gail OLSON; his sister, Frances IVERSON; and his brother, Albert OLSON. Survivors are his wife, Marion; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Della and Roland BROWN of Lansing, Judith GURD of Stanton, Connie and Gary DUMENEY of Woodhaven, Stacy and Roger JENSEN of Ionia; three sisters, Elsie NELSON and Lois BRITTEN, both of Lansing, Evelyn DITTRICH of Bark River; one brother, Robert OLSON of South Milwaukee, Wis.; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Langston Church, 1202 Church St. (M-91), Stanton. Interment of ashes will be in Pine Township Cemetery, Langston.

OWEN, MARY L.

Ionia - Mary L. OWEN, 89, of Ionia, passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Ionia. She was born Aug. 1, 1910, in Ionia, the daughter of Frank and Ellen "Nell" KENNEDY FROST. She worked at Riverside Correctional Facility as an RN and also worked at A.O. Smith as an industrial nurse and with public nursing in Montcalm County. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Thomas ROCK of Sturgis; one sister-in-law, Gertrude FROST of Ionia; three newphews, John and Leah ROCK of Northfield, Minn., Thomas and Jeni FROST, Robert FROST, all of Ionia; nieces, Sara ROCK of Kalamazoo, Sister Patricia FROST of Monroe, Deborah FROST of Lansing, Mary Margaret FROST of Ionia; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom were Mary's delight. She was preceded in death by her husband, John OWEN; one brother, Francis "Jack" FROST; and a very special aunt, Celia KENNEDY. A Mass of Christian burial was at 11 a.m. today at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Melvin Fox as celebrant. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Ionia. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Carmelite Monastery, 4300 Mount Carmel Dr. NE, Ada, Mich. 49301. Envelopes are available at Lake Funeral Home, Ionia.

Andrew Jackson Oyler, 84, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert LaDue of Ionia. Funeral at the Myers funeral home Thursday afternoon. Burial in Carson City cemetery. He was born in Dowagiac and in 1878 married Anna Gibson. Surviving are the daughter and four sons, W. D. Oyler and Ray of Carson City, Harry of Ionia and Arzo of Cadillac.

Crystal - Larry Lee OYLER, 58, of Carson City, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing. He was born Nov. 11, 1940, in Crystal Township, to Maynard and Beulah BRAMAN OYLER. He married Phyllis L. WALKER on July 16, 1966, in Springport. He was a member of Crystal Church of the Brethren. He loved the outdooors and being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis OYLER of Carson City; one daughter and son-in-law, Kris and Cary HALL of Stanton; three sons, Kevin OYLER of Carson City and Monica Jill BRINKLEY of Suffolk, Va., Karl OYLER of Carson City, William OYLER and Terri COFFMAN of Carson City; eight special grandchildren, Jared, Anjle, Aaron, Jacob, Brad, Branden, Patricia, Thomas; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Donna and Jack MERRITT, Sandy OYLER, all of Carson City; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Maynard and Joyce OYLER of Wilmington, N.C., Gaylord and Maryann OYLER of Fort Valley, Ga., Donald OYLER of Brighton, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Beulah OYLER. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Crystal, with the Rev. William Raymor of Crystal Church of the Brethren officiating. Interment will be in Burk Cemetery, Crystal. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the "wishes of the family".
