Hilma Sarah Adair, age 97, of 200 W. City Park Drive, Munising, died on Saturday morning, August 19, 2006 at the Manor Care Health Center in Kingsford, Michigan. She was born on December 23, 1908 in Trenary to Gust and Hilma (Kuninkainen) Laytonen and attended school in Trenary. Hilma married Donald Vernon Adair in 1929 and he preceded her in death in 1951. She was a homemaker and raised ten children. Hilma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Munising. After her last child graduated, she worked for several families caring for their children doing and domestic work in their homes. Hilma enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going for rides, going out to eat, and watching Detroit Tiger Baseball.
She is survived by her daughters – Betty (Robert) Durocher of Monroe, Michigan, Lorraine (Ed) Vertz of Munising, Dorothy (Robert) Masters of Van Meer, Judy (Mike) Migazzi of Iron Mountain, and Karen (Melvin) Beauchine of Munising; sons – Darrell Adair of Marquette and Dennis (Regina) Adair of Munising; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hilma was preceded in death by three sons – Edward, Ronald, and Sheldon Adair grandsons – Curt Perry and Steven Masters, and great grandson Marcus Masters.
Hilma’s visitation and funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Rev. Deborah Hubbard will conduct the funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. A fellowship gathering will take place at the Lakeshore Manor following the services.
