Munising

Alard A. Anderson, age 82, of 1425 Center Street, Munising, died on Friday morning, March 2, 2007 at the Tendercare Health Center. Alard was born on May 5, 1924 in Stambaugh to Charles and Cicelia (Frangquist) Anderson and moved to Munising as an infant. He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. Alard enlisted into the U.S. Navy on February 11, 1943. He served on the U.S.S. Dixie and the U.S.S. Whitney in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He earned the Theater, Philippine Liberation, and Victory Ribbons. Alard was discharged on February 7, 1946 and came home to Munising where he returned to work at Anderson’s Service Station. He began employment with Kimberly Clark in 1946 in the Finishing Room. For six years, he worked in Specialties as a trucker, rewinder operator, and third hand on the wax machine. In 1953, Alard transferred to the Household Product Clerk, was promoted to Production Planner in Specialties, and in 1971 was promoted to Mill Planner which was the job Alard held at his retirement on September 1, 1984 after 37 ½ years of employment. Alard had married Helen Beaudette on September 11, 1948. They raised two daughters and Alard loved spending time at his camp with “his girls” who also included his four granddaughters. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus , the American Legion, Munising Lions Club, and the Pictured Rocks Golf Club.

Alard is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Helen of Munising; their daughters – Chris (Steve) Trombly of Munising and Janice (Randy Fagerberg) Anderson of Munising; four granddaughters – Stacey Tunteri of San Francisco, CA, Terri Ollis of Louisville, KY, Tricia Trombly of Munising, and Rae Ann Bowerman of Fairbanks, AK; three great-grandsons – Reagan Bowerman, Jacob VanLandschoot, and Ivan Ollis; a brother – Roswell (Pearl) Anderson of Munising; sisters-in-law – Marion Anderson, Tui Beaudette, and Betty (Chuck) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alard was preceded in death by his parents, brother Marlin Anderson, and sister Melba Negilski.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 12:10 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising.

Graveside services for Alard will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. The Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors and Deacon James Anderson will conduct committal prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Alard may be directed to Sacred Heart Church or the American Legion.
