Obituary Lt. Col. T. William Berube
Retired Lt. Col. T. William Berube, age 86, of Farmington Hills, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at 1:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. He was born to the late Omer and Elsie (Constance) Beurbe. Bill graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School then attended Northern Michigan College. He joined the United States Army Air Corp, serving during WWII. Bill completed 50 bombing missions as a navigator on B-17 Bombers; he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, and a Purple Heart. He continued his service in the reserves, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Detroit, a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion; he was a senior member of Detroit Athletic Club, a life member of the Pine Lake Golf and Country Club, and a senior member of the Bay View Yacht Club. Bill owned and operated Pavement and Sealants Company in Wixom, MI for many years. Bill is survived by his sister: Lieutenant Governor Connie & John Binsfeld of Munising and their family (Greg & Susie Binsfeld (nephew) and son - Matthew; Susan & Michael Maxwell (niece) and children - Katy and Gus; Paul Binsfeld (nephew); Michael & Melinda Binsfeld (nephew) and children Nancy and Molly; and great-niece Rebecca & Dr. Chris Hummel); Dr. Robert O. “Buzz” & Becky Berube (nephew) and daughters – Brooke, Kelly & Bridget; Janet & Gene Aubrey (niece) and daughters – Katharine and Suzanne; Jill & Mark Morris (niece) and daughters – Barbara and Katherine; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Berube of Bradenton, FL. Bill was also preceded in death by his brother Bob Berube. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Jogues Constance (cousin of Bill, Connie, and Bob) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Detroit, on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack, Grosse Pointe, MI TP# 313-881-8500. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Monday, October 2, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Following the visitation Father Chris Gardiner of Sacred Heart Church will conduct a graveside service at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising, where the Alger County Veterans Council and the American Legion Honor Guard will carry out Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Bill may me made to the T. William Berube Charitable Trust c/o Peoples State Bank, P.O. Box 158, Munising, MI 49862.
