Saima Ida Louise Bugg, age 90, of Connors Road in Munising, died at her home Monday, May 26, 2008 under the care of her loving daughters. She was born on May 3, 1918 in Grand Marais to the late Matthew and Ida (Koski) Olli. Saima was raised and attended school in Grand Marais. On May 29, 1933 she married Bernard Bugg who preceded her in death on March 9, 1992 after nearly fifty-nine years of marriage. Saima worked at the Post Office in Grand Marais, before moving to Munising in 1950 where she was a loving homemaker. She attended the Munising Baptist Church and was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society of the Church. Saima enjoyed quilt making, gardening, and picnics in the woods after picking blueberries. Most important to her was her family. Saima was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she will be missed by all of her family.
She is survived by her daughters – Barbara Pease and Bonnie (Dean) Frederick both of Munising; sons – Bernard (Iris) Bugg of Munising and James Bugg of Van Meer; eighteen grand-children; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters – Aino Schultz of Ishpeming, Helen Peano of Marquette, Ellen Heiss of Sand Lake, MI, and Ruth Lator of St. John’s, MI; brother – Andrew Olli of Grand Marais; sister-in-law Bette Olli of Sawyer, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Saima was preceded in death by her husband – Bernard; parents – Matthew and Ida; daughter – Carolyn Cook; sisters – Rose Bush, Lillian Fine, Marion Coulston, and Gertrude Brunsman; brothers – Toivo Olli, Wayne Olli, Vilho Olli, Irving Olli, Arvie Olli, and several infant siblings; grandson - Thomas Bugg; and son-in-law – Vernon Pease.
Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Saima’s Funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29 at the Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore. A luncheon will immediately follow the service, followed by interment at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais.
