THELMA NEOMA COTEY
Thelma Neoma Cotey, age 99, of Superior St. in Munising, died Monday,
August 4, 2003, at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. Thelma was
born on May 21, 1904 in Munising to the late Eugene and Emma (Jobin)
Cotey. She graduated from the Sacred Heart School and William G. Mather
High School in 1922. Thelma was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Michael’s Circle of St.
Anthony’s Guild and the Alger County Historical Society. Thelma worked
42 years at Madigan’s Hardware as a bookkeeper and clerk retiring in
1964. She enjoyed bowling for many years, playing cards, and had a
beautiful flower garden and a plentiful raspberry patch. She belonged to
a local sewing club and did beautiful cutwork. Thelma had a wonderful
sense of humor, she was devoted to her faith, and had said that she
always felt fortunate to have so much family around her even though she
had no children of her own.
She is survived by: her sisters – Mildred Bell and Jeanne Poirier, both
of Munising, and Eulene Skszek of Belleville, MI; a brother, Dennis
James of Lower Michigan; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Eugene and Emma, Thelma was preceded in death by
sisters – Priscilla Andrus, Marne Mae and Eleanor M.; and brothers –
Clayton, J. Harold, Francis and John “Jack”.
Father Dennis L. Borca celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial at the
Sacred Heart Church in Munising on Friday, August 8, 2003. Interment was
in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
