Obituary John B. Denman
John “Jack” B. Denman, age 84, of 221 East Onota Street, Munising, died Monday August 20, 2007, in a single vehicle accident in Pine River, Wisconsin. Jack was born on September 25, 1922 in Cadillac, Michigan to the late Robert and Lydia (Kuhnick) Denman. He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1941. Jack entered into the U.S. Army on February 18, 1943. He served with the Calvery and earned the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars for battles at Rhineland and Central Europe, one overseas service bar, two service stripes, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged on February 4, 1946. Jack married Alice Grace Johnson on May 20, 1948. Together they raised their two children Jim and Phyllis. Jack owned and operated Denman’s Hardware for many years. He truly enjoyed his work and even though he retired, he was a daily part of the store’s operations. He was a member of the American Legion, Sacred Heart Church, and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and spent every opening day of deer season with his son. Jack enjoyed fishing at his camp on Ready Lake and gardening. Jack is survived by his wife of over fifty-nine years – Alice Denman of Austin, TX; son – Jim Denman and Barb Rasmussen; daughter – Phyllis and Bernie Aken, Jr. of Austin, TX; grandchildren – Jason (Amber) Denman, Kimberly (Sam) Gambarin, and Brian Johnson of the USMC; great-grandchildren – Jonas, Aili, and Elena; sister – Mary Johnson of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law Conrad (Muriel) Denman, Gene (Thelma) Denman. No public services will be held.
