Ivan Douglas Johns
(July 11, 1925 - October 21, 2007)
 

Wetmore

Ivan D. Johns, age 82, of Wetmore, died Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Munising Memorial Hospital. He was born July 11, 1925 in Traverse City, MI to the late Lyman and Ada (Clark) Johns. Ivan’s family moved to the U. P. in 1928. He attended school in Wetmore and William G. Mather. Ivan started working at Kimberly Clark October 20, 1945 in the Service Operations Department unloading raw materials. He progressed in that department to tractor driver, his job at retirement on January 1, 1987. Ivan was a strong steady worker. When his father developed health problems, Ivan stepped in and helped raise and support his siblings. He was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Wetmore. Ivan enjoyed collecting and tumbling rocks from all over the world.

Ivan is survived by six siblings – Harold (Jean) Johns of Wetmore, Dorothy Johns of Wetmore, Glen (Carolyn) Johns of Naples, FL, Opal Kyllonen of Hermansville, MI, James Johns of Wetmore, and Stan (Marilan) Johns of Munising; nineteen nieces and nephews – Carol, Susan, Gloria, Harold Jr., Kathy, Archie, Johnny, Mary Lou, Wesley, Bonnie, Lisa, Thomas, Virginia, Charlyn, Sherry, Sharon, Timmy, David, and Danny; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law – Charlotte Johns. He was preceded in death by his parents – Lyman and Ada; brothers – Donald, Benjamin, and Clayton Johns; sister – Edith Johns; and brother-in-law – William Kyllonen.

A visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Ivan’s funeral will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the Wesleyan Church in Wetmore. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. He will be escorted by nephews Danny, Archie, Harold P., Matt, Thomas, and Wesley.
